Multi-Organ Peony Extraction Services

Multi-Organ Peony Extraction Services

Aprofood provides multi-organ peony extraction for cosmetic brands, nutraceutical formulators, and natural ingredient buyers. We process flowers, pollen, roots, bark, twigs, and leaves, each harvested at its optimal stage, into standardized extracts rich in paeoniflorin, anthocyanins, flavonoids, and polyphenols. Valued for antioxidant, brightening, and soothing properties, they are well suited to sensitive-skin care, with extraction routes and purity levels tailored to your application.

Bioactive Compounds in Peony Plant Organs

Fig 1. Bioactive Compounds in Peony Plant Organs.

Peony is a long-established botanical in traditional use and is now a highly regarded natural ingredient in skin care. Different parts of the plant contain different bioactive compounds, so each organ offers its own value. Taking the main plant organs as an example:

Flowers: Used for peony flower tea. Rich in flavonoids, polyphenols, polysaccharides, and anthocyanins, with strong antioxidant activity.

Pollen and Stamens: Rich in flavonoids, polyphenols, polysaccharides, and anthocyanins. Valued for antioxidant and brightening benefits. Collected in the early morning of peak bloom to retain the full active profile.

Roots and Bark: Rich in paeoniflorin, anthocyanins, tannins, and terpenoids. Widely used for brightening, antioxidant protection, and soothing sensitive skin.

Twigs: Contain lignin and cellulose. Used as natural scrub particles or in natural preservative-support systems.

Leaves and Young Buds: Contain tannins and saponins, offering anti-inflammatory and astringent effects. Picked during the April growth period to avoid fibrosis.

Our Service

Aprofood offers end-to-end processing solutions covering raw material sourcing and pretreatment, organ-specific extraction, purification and standardization, and analytical verification. Using low-temperature extraction equipment and industrial-scale concentration and drying lines, we convert raw botanical inputs into extracts tailored to your specification.

Raw Material Pretreatment

Raw material management begins with identification and inspection of each organ at its optimal harvest stage, followed by cleaning, sorting, and moisture control. Depending on the organ, materials are then gently dried, sliced, or milled to a defined particle size. This controlled preparation maximizes extraction efficiency while protecting heat- and light-sensitive actives.

Organ-Specific Extraction

Items Specification
Flower Extraction Peony flowers, long used as peony flower tea, are rich in flavonoids, polyphenols, polysaccharides, and anthocyanins. We use low-temperature aqueous and hydroalcoholic extraction to retain anthocyanin color and antioxidant activity. Polysaccharide fractions can be recovered separately for moisturizing and nutritional applications.
Pollen and Stamen Extraction Stamens and pollen are collected in the early morning of full bloom, when active content is at its peak. They are processed promptly to preserve a complete profile of flavonoids, polyphenols, polysaccharides, and anthocyanins. The resulting extracts show strong antioxidant and brightening potential for premium skin care.
Root Extraction Peony root extracts are standardized around paeoniflorin, along with tannins and terpenoid constituents. Optimized solvent extraction and macroporous resin enrichment produce extracts suited to brightening, antioxidant, and soothing formulations for sensitive skin.
Bark Extraction Peony bark is processed with an approach similar to roots, targeting paeoniflorin, tannins, and related phenolic and terpenoid compounds. Process conditions are adjusted to the bark matrix to maximize recovery and reduce impurities.
Twig Extraction Peony twigs are rich in lignin and cellulose. We process them into fine powders for natural scrub and exfoliating applications, and into extracts for natural preservative-support systems. Particle size and purity can be customized to your formulation.
Leaf and Young Bud Extraction Leaves and tender buds, picked in the April growth period to avoid fibrosis, are rich in tannins and saponins. Their extracts offer anti-inflammatory and astringent benefits suited to soothing and pore-refining products.

Extraction Technologies

Items Specification
Low-Temperature Extraction Controlled-temperature extraction with water or food- and cosmetic-grade ethanol, ideal for heat-sensitive anthocyanins, flavonoids, and polysaccharides.
Ultrasonic-Assisted Extraction (UAE) Acoustic cavitation disrupts plant cell walls, shortening extraction time and improving yield at low temperature. Power, frequency, temperature, and solid-to-liquid ratio are optimized via Response Surface Methodology (RSM).
Macroporous Resin Enrichment Selective adsorption, desorption, and membrane separation concentrate target actives such as paeoniflorin and anthocyanins while removing sugars, pigments, and other impurities.
Concentration and Drying Vacuum concentration, spray drying, and freeze drying are available to deliver liquid extracts, standardized powders, or customized forms for your application.

Comprehensive Analytical & Quality Evaluation

Active Marker Quantification

Validated HPLC and UPLC methods quantify paeoniflorin, total anthocyanins, total flavonoids, total polyphenols, tannins, and polysaccharides according to your specification, ensuring every extract meets its target active content and delivers the potency your formulation requires.

Physicochemical Parameters

Routine testing of moisture, ash, solubility, pH, and extract yield verifies raw material quality and process consistency, helping confirm that each lot stays within agreed specification limits and performs reliably during formulation and scale-up.

Contaminant Screening

ICP-MS heavy metal analysis, multi-residue pesticide testing, residual solvent analysis, and microbiological limits evaluation support compliance with global safety standards and the regulatory requirements of your target market, giving you confidence in the safety of every batch.

Stability Assessment

Accelerated stability testing tracks color, active content, and appearance under varied temperature, light, and pH conditions, allowing us to evaluate shelf life and recommend suitable storage and packaging, so your finished products remain effective and visually consistent over time.

Applications of Peony Extracts
